Version 3.2 Web Tool Upgrades
March 24, 2010

As of Tuesday, March 23, 2010 you will see and experience the following updates and improvements to the Career Pathways Roadmap Web Tool:

Bug Fixes
Thank you to everyone who has reported technical issues with the Web Tool. For new software we are fortunate that most of these issues have been minor in the grand scheme of things!

POST Drawings

  • Drawing List - Organization filter boxes now correctly displays "Show All High Schools" and "Show All Community Colleges".
  • Drawing List - High School users will now see drawings listed for Community Colleges and Organizations that they are affiliated with when clicking "Affiliated Drawings".
  • Drawing List - version "Notes" field is now clearing properly. Notes written for any version, in the version settings page, will be displayed in the drawing list. Users can edit or clear notes that no longer apply to a specific version.
  • Content hyperlinks now open in a new window, by default.

Roadmaps Drawings

  • Drawing List - version "Notes" field is now clearing properly. Notes written for any version, in the version settings page, will be displayed in the drawing list. Users can edit or clear notes that no longer apply to a specific version.
  • Copying Drawings - Removed secondary copy confirmation window/prompt. Redundant step.

Feature Requests

  • Roadmaps - Edit Color Palette: Organization Administrators and Webmasters can now update colors used in existing roadmaps by replacing an existing color with a new color. This feature is found in "Organization Colors" on the side bar, but should be used with discretion!
  • Roadmaps & POST - "Unpublish" Drawings: You now have the ability to "unpublish" drawings! Ideal for test drawings, drawings that users don't want made public on OLIMS, or programs that are no longer being offered, but should not be deleted. How? From the TOOLS menu on the drawing canvas, click "unpublish this version".
  • Community College POST Drawings - Course Credits: A new field has been added to the content editor for listing the number of course credits. Credits will appear in parenthesis in the table, for example "(3)".

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your patience as we have worked hard to implement these changes.

Upcoming Features
Requests that did not make it into the above list are still in development, and will be completed by June 2010. Here is a list of those pending requests:

  • Roadmaps - Drawing Canvas Print Frame: Adding a non-printable printing guide (or frame) on the drawing canvas grid to assist users in design layout for optimal printing.
  • Roadmap & POST Drawings Lists - Retain Keyword Search Results: Retain keyword search text so that when a user returns to the drawing list they do not have to re-enter their search query.
  • OLMIS Occupational Reports - Links: Updating OLMIS to link directly to roadmaps on college web pages instead of linking to Web Tool. Keeps viewers on "branded" community college web pages, where their roadmaps are being embedded.
  • POST - Additional Legend Symbols: Adding "AP" for Advanced Placement. We are not implementing course specific descriptions at this time.
  • POST - Community College Header Field: Similar to the footer, except to be added to the top of the table underneath the college name, before the Prerequisites row. This is to allow community college users to add notes, a brief introductory or description, to a Community College POST drawing before the course information is listed.

We welcome your additional feedback regarding these issues, or new requests. Please email our Technical Support team at helpdesk@ctepathways.org.

Tutorial revisions specific to this upgrade are available here:

We will notify you as we update the Web Tool with these fixes, enhancements and new features!

As much as we would like to implement all of your requests immediately, budget and prioritization restraints prevent us from being able to do it all now. We thank you for your patience and appreciate your feedback. Requests that did not make it into the above list are pending approval for development later in the year, in our 2010-2011 budget. Here is a list of those the pending requests:

Projected 2010-2011 Budget Items

  • Roadmaps - New Drawing Features: Add "background container" style object that can be given a solid color for object layering; add object layering to improve design and allow connections to overlap boxes; add connection line styles such as dotted or gradient lines and fat arrows; add free type text box (without borders) to create floating text.
  • Roadmaps - Grid Settings: Save grid settings as a user preference.
  • POST - Custom Row Titles: Add capacity to select from pre-determined alternatives to row titles.
    • Current row titles default to "1st Year Fall", "1st Year Winter", "Electives", "Prerequisites", etc.
    • Request to choose alternate rows titles without seasons such as "Term 1", "Term 2", etc. "Gen. Ed".
    • "Requirements" (different than "Prerequisites"), "Core Requirements", etc.
    • Allow Organizations to set defaults for these choices for new drawings.
  • POST - "Preview" Configure Table Changes: Edit "Configure Rows & Tables" to allow preview of changes before automatically changing database table structure. Allow "save" or "cancel" before returning to POST drawing.
  • POST - Copy Content Between Drawings: Add the ability to copy tables contents from one drawing and paste them in to another.
  • POST - Affiliations: Add capability of "Other Organizations" to be affiliated with Community Colleges and High Schools in order to complete POST Views using drawings from both organization types.
  • Most Visited Drawings: a new sidebar feature that would highlight the most recent drawings that have been accessed. Feature to be defined.
  • Users List - Filtering/Search Criteria: Update users page with basic filtering/searching features to allow users to find other users more easily.
  • User Discussion Board: pending feedback from users. This would be a Q&A forum with categories that will become a knowledge base for users to research issues and post items for discussion/sharing between other users.
  • Print to PDF: Automatically generate PDFs of Roadmaps and POST Drawings to bypass the manual step of printing to PDF from the browser.

We welcome your additional feedback regarding these issues, or new requests. Please email us at helpdesk@ctepathways.org.

Summary of Release Notes
January 1, 2010

An archive of release notes for upgrades to the Career Pathways Roadmap Web Tool since version 1.0 was released in Oregon, January 2008: CPWebTool.org/Release Notes

Version 3.1 Web Tool Upgrades
June 21, 2009

The Roadmap Drawings feature of the Web Tool received major feature upgrades Sunday, June 21, 2009. POST Drawing features were not affected by this upgrade.

Introduction
This upgrade is different than other upgrades with new features and bug fixes. Here's why. As Oregon's unemployment rate has risen and the number of job seekers has exploded, the need for occupational information has expanded as well. In order to assist job seekers across the state, leaders at our Employment Dept. and Worksource Oregon centers expressed an interest in being able to see Career Pathways Roadmaps by occupational area and not have to search every community college website to find a specific program. To do this, we are now linking all published Career Pathways Roadmaps on the Occupational Report in OLMIS.

When a job seeker or staff person goes into an Occupational report on OLMIS at the top of the page will be a link for "Career Pathways Roadmaps". When the user clicks on this link, a list of links of all of the available community college roadmaps will be listed.

Benefits
Your community college roadmaps will now be available on OLMIS giving job seekers around the state the opportunity to learn about your program. The added benefit to you is that prospective students browsing careers options on the OLMIS website will now be able to link to roadmaps for the community colleges offering degree and certification programs in their field of interest.

Changes You'll See

  • Standardized roadmap drawing titles. This has been done to help avoid typographical errors and maintain consistency in the roadmap titles, following the list of approved career and technical education programs in the Oregon Community College Viewbook, January 2009. For instance, we have seen variations in how roadmaps have been named for the EMT program, such as EMT Emergency Tech, Emergency Med Technician, and Emergency Med Technology.
  • Where applicable, we have matched roadmaps to the list of Approved Career & Technical Education Program in the Community College Viewbook. The roadmaps are also now also sorted by Oregon Skill Set.
  • We recognize that many of your roadmaps are not yet listed in this approved program list, or you may title your program something other than the approved program name. Don't worry! If your program fits into an approved program category, you can continue to specify an alternate title, which will be used as the roadmap title, like before. If no alternate title is provided, the approved program name will be used instead. And if your program is "not listed" in the approved program name list, you can use the alternate title to state your program name like before. It's that simple!
  • In addition, through the Drawing Properties screen for your published roadmaps, you can now add OMLIS links by either searching your roadmap for URLs you may have added to OLMIS occupational report pages, or by manually adding OMLIS URLs. A simple click on a checkbox next to the desired occupation listing will allow that roadmap to be publicly accessible on the OLMIS website for that occupation.
  • NOTE: the folks at OLMIS and the Oregon Employment Department are currently finishing up the programming on their end. As soon as that is tested and ready to release, you will get an email letting you know how roadmaps will be displayed.

How You Can Help
As with any new change, there may be glitches, and we encourage your to check over your roadmaps to ensure the titles look the way you want. And as always, we welcome your input and feedback. Please use our automated Help Desk to submit your feedback and questions.

Tutorial revisions specific to this upgrade are for Roadmap Drawings only:

Version 2.0 Web Tool Upgrades

A Web Tool update was released March 7th, 2008 that addressed printing and publishing roadmaps. As you continue working in the Web Tool, please keep these things in mind:

  • Printing Drawings: If extensive printing needs to be done before March 7th, please email Help to request printable files of your roadmaps.
  • Publishing/Embedding Drawings: If you need to publish roadmaps to public websites prior to March 7th, please refer to Publishing Drawings in the Getting Started Tutorial for instructions; or email Help for additional assistance.
  • Editing School Colors: School Admin and Webmaster users, please use caution when deleting colors for your school. Changes to school colors are saved immediately. Please review your schools drawings before deleting colors.
